Parents- your student and I have recently sat down and conferenced on some of their 3rd quarter reading goals. Many students were proud of the amazing gains they made after seeing their STAR reading levels increase dramatically. It was obvious who was reading and making progress and who needed to step it up for 3rd quarter. You should see your student reading no less than 30 minutes a night. They are no longer required to record, unless their reading proves to be challenging and in that case we'll conference about what type of response work will help them best. For now- just encourage them to find a quiet spot to read, away from distractions.
We also have an entire wall full of over 100 book recommendations from their peers- So they should never be short of ideas for their next read :)
Thanks-
Erika DuBois
